Tour Guide:

The castle pictured here is Powderham Castle, historic and present seat of the Earl of Devon, England - the Courtenay ** family. I am descended from this family. The pages of the first part of this website are set up like rooms in a castle. In the "Foyer" you will find my pedigree, listing all of my ancestors from the eleventh century right up to myself!  In the "Gallery" are photos associated with the Courtenay family and its' history. I am still working on the "Great Hall" and the "Gardens" pages. The Thacher family pages which follow are also under construction. I hope you will continue to check back occasionally and follow my progress as I add to these pages! Thank-you for stopping by and enjoy your tour!

**the family originated in Courtenay, France and was then "de Courtenay"- my branch came to England in the 12th century, dropped the French "de" around the middle of the 15th century, and is known as the Courtenay family to the present day. I retain the "de" in my name because I like it! My initials would actually be K.C. since in France the "de" was originally meant to indicate where the family was from, and did not represent part of the surname - However, since most Americans would not be aware of this practice, I reluctantly use the initials K.D.
